sorry for delay, stress has had my time

5 04 2008

I eat when I am stressed, but luckily I have been working out as well. For the past two weeks, my wife and I have been going through the process of getting a new home and get approved for the loan. It’s our first house. Friday we received the final approval and all is a go.

With that said, I haven’t been eating the best, nor have we been running at all. Today was our first day back to the gym in two weeks. I weighed in at 239.5 which is down .4 from a couple weeks ago. Hopefully I will be able to get back into my training.

I just wanna say no sometimes

4 03 2008

This past weekend we went for a long run in some pretty strong winds and it seemed like the wind was in our face both ways. Yesterday, we ran 3.6 miles at 8:30 after I enjoyed happy hour with some friends. This morning, I woke up at 5:15 to go see my trainer.

I just wanted to say no to all of them. Thankfully my wife owns a cattle prod.

weight loss may slow

1 03 2008

So this past Thursday, my trainer and I went over my physical fitness report. It measured everything from my body’s performance to pump oxygen through my body, body fat, flexibility and strength tests. In general, there wasn’t any surprise to fin I am way below average in my peer group. No shock there. What was surprising was that my trainer said it is possible for me to workout for the first month and see minimal weight loss. He said my goal is to change my body composition and weight will eventually fall off. He told me to not be discouraged. Of my 249.4 lbs, 185.4 was lean weight and 64 was fat weight. If I lose 20lbs of fat and gain 15lbs on muscle in my first month, my net loss will only be 5lbs. But as a result I will feel much better and my body will continue to make serious changes in losing the rest of my fat. A better look at changes to my body is the measurements I have been keep track of. I keep loosing inches. Although the number on the scale motivates me, it’s not what drives me.

With that said, I gained .5lbs this week. 248.7.

pinched to death

21 02 2008

Today wasn’t fun. I was put through a litany of different types of measurements. And if measurements weren’t enough or different strength tests, Ian pulled out a blast from elementary school past. I learned today that calipers are not for measuring but for torture. I was pinched so many times today. Anyhow, I will find my body fat percentage next Tuesday, but I am thinking about stopping by our local university to get a true under water test. I’ll keep you posted.

Right when I thought I was done, he looked at is watch and said “We still have 12 minutes!” Then he sent me through a series crazy workouts that kicked my butt. It was pretty dang awesome.

so you had a bad day… (la la la)

12 02 2008

I’m taking a break from studying. I think I may pull an all nighter. I got a big test tomorrow in my Bio Psych class.

Today was not a good day for running. I am sure most people have them. This morning we woke up early, hit the gym about 5:50 am, and went straight to the treadmill. After the first mile, I started feeling a bit dizzy. I tried to push through it, but ended up in the bathroom minutes later, losing the orange I had eaten previously. Needless to say, I didn’t make it to 3 miles. Tomorrow is a day or rest, hopefully Wednesday will look better.

this morning when running 2.5 miles, all I kept telling myself is that by the time the marathon comes, I will have trained with a 50 lb. tire around my waist.

week 5

3 02 2008

Okay… enough crying. So I didn’t lose weight this back week. I wasn’t expecting an 60lb January. I am in this for the duration of the year.

This week we are scheduled to run 2.5 miles, 4 times, yoga twice, and I am going snowshoeing again on Friday. But with the encouragement of my wife, I am taking the next step in my battle to rid myself of my fat shell. This week I will be making appointments to see 4 different personal trainers and figure out which one I will be seeing on a regular basis. Here are the four in question:

  1. Fitness Together
  2. Fit Trainer 1on1
  3. Tranzform
  4. Velocity Sports Performance

first time

28 01 2008

Today for the first time since starting this journey, I questioned myself. Why the heck am I doing this? We only ran 2 miles this morning, and as we were approaching the 2 mile mark, I thought to myself, “I am only 1/13 done with a marathon”. I know I am not the only one to question themselves, however it was a tad bit discouraging.

Anyone else question themselves when starting out with a goal?

emotional eater

27 01 2008

We all know that losing weight isn’t about just working out. It also has to do with eating right. We all get that, I know. A bit of honesty here…. I am an emotional eater. I didn’t gain this large bit of insulation due to following in love with food late in life. I ate my way through difficult times these past couple years. So this year isn’t just going to be about will power on the trail or treadmill, it’s also going to be about hitting the roots of why I turn to food late at night when I am lonely, hurt, or sad.
